Michael Stevenson
YEAR OF RESIDENCY
January - April 2023
Michael Stevenson is a New Zealand artist who has been living and working in Berlin since 2000. Last year, a major exhibition of his work Disproof Does Not Equal Disbelief spanning some 35 years was presented at KW Institute for Contemporary Art, Berlin. Stevenson's research-based practice draws on the relationship between non-material ideological, political, and socio-economic forces, technologies, and education, and their relation to spatial configurations in the material infrastructure of everyday life.
Studying originally at the Elam School of Fine Arts, Auckland, Stevenson held a guest teaching position in the MFA program at Art Center College of Design, Pasadena in 2001. In 2011 he was appointed Professor of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Nuremberg, a class he continues to develop. From 2017 to 2019 he was a visiting artist in the Master program at HEAD, Haute Ecole d'art et de design, Geneva. Michael Stevenson is represented by Michael Lett Gallery, Auckland and Fine Arts, Sydney.
