Jim Speers

October - January 2011

Jim Speers started making moving image artworks during the period of his residency in Titirangi. This turned into an interest in documentary film making which has continued. These films are often concerned with the social geography of cities, consider issues of cultural translation and ask people to talk about the world they live in. Work made with a variety of collaborators including the artist collective Field Recordings have been exhibited at Shanghai’s Rockbund Museum and at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. He is presently making a film that explores the life of a fishing town in Japan.
