McCahon House x Space for Contemporary Art Exchange artist Syyoung Kim held a demonstration for AUT students in August.

Korean artist Syyoung Kim has spent the past month in Aotearoa as part of the reciprocal McCahon House x Space For Contemporary Art Exchange Residency.

During his time here, Syyoung has been creating new work while engaging with a wide range of local artists, arts organisations and audiences. A highlight of his residency was a special demonstration hosted by AUT for students, providing a valuable opportunity for the exchange of ideas and knowledge. Syyoung shared his distinctive techniques for creating forms, throwing large vessels on the wheel and incorporating local materials into bespoke glazes, inviting students to participate in different stages of his creative process. The event offered a generous and engaging insight into his practice, while creating space for dialogue between an established international ceramicist and the next generation of artists.

Our sincere thanks to Jeena Shin and Harriet Stockman for making this very special event possible.
